Artist FAQ

  • How do I join as an artist?

So you want to contribute your amazing work to our community of artists, great! Just head over to the Contributor Application page and fill out the form for consideration.

  • I'm not from Chicago, can I join?

Chicago Wall Art is a community built to support its local artists, who are selling Chicago style wall art. At this time we're only accepting artists that live and work in the Chicagoland area, and have a collection of images that represent our great city and the surrounding area.

  • What portion of sales do I keep?

In short, all of it! Longer answer... The artist sets their own markup (profit) on their work. The price of the print is based on the cost of materials and assembly, the artist's markup, and a small markup that we keep to maintain the site. Artists keep 100% of the markup they set.

  • When and how do I get paid?

In order for Chicago Wall Art to maintain a 30-day return policy, we have to hold onto funds until that 30-day window expires. Payments will be made to you via Paypal on the 15th of each month, for all sales before the 15th of the previous month.

  • Do I have to exclusively sell through ChicagoWallArt.com?

Nope. You're free to sell your images on other sites as well as your own.

  • With what color space should I upload my images?

We accept sRGB and AdobeRGB. We do not support ProPhoto or CMYK at this time. If you upload an image and it looks strange, please check your color profile.

  • Will you crop my images?

No, feel free to crop your images in any aspect ratio that you want. However, keep in mind that some buyers may prefer standard formats to fit off-the-shelf frames. Panoramic images should be cropped 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1 (max).

  • Why was my uploaded image rejected?

In order to maintain the highest possible quality, we require a minimum of 10MP images that are properly exposed, clear, in focus, and reasonably noise-free. We will only accept and print images that we are confident the customer will not return due to quality. Unfortunately, that means some images will get rejected after our review. At this time we cannot provide feedback on your work, and rejected images will be automatically deleted in 14 days.

  • Can I have a watermark on my images?

Please do not upload images with visible copyright notices or watermarks. This generally deters buyers, and the image will be printed just as it is uploaded to the site. Signatures on artwork are fine, though are typically not included for photography.

  • How is printing and shipping of my work handled?

When a sale comes in, your image gets uploaded to our printing partner for professional, high quality printing and framing. The finished product is then shipped directly to the customer.

  • What kind of prints does ChicagoWallArt.com offer?

ChicagoWallArt.com offers prints on professional photo papers, on their own or matted and framed. We also offer canvas and metal prints. Additional print options are coming soon.

  • What are your requirements for the images I submit?

In order to create fine art quality prints of your artwork. Higher pixel counts generally produce better prints, while those without enough information will be blurry or pixelated.
    Image files should be:

    • Chicago area related
    • At least 10MP (megapixels)
    • JPG file format
    • sRGB or AdobeRGB color space
    • Max 25MB file size

  • Who maintains the copyright of images on ChicagoWallArt.com?

The original creator of the artwork is always the copyright holder, whether the artwork has been registered with the US Copyright Office or not.

  • My question isn’t answered here. Where can I send my question?
